Mr Panda received the award from the Honorable President of India, Mr Pranab Mukherjee during the inaugural ceremony of the World Agroforestry Congress 2014 at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. Mr Panda of Antamoda village, Rayagada district, Odisha owns 17 hectares of land on which he cultivates paddy, cotton, pigeonpea and maize.
This award was in recognition of his involvement in 2011-2012 cropping season as seed producer of ICRISAT line ICP 8863 (Maruti). He was also the recipient of the Odisha Best Farmer Award on Pigeonpea last March 2013. In 2013-2014 cropping season, he increased his area to 14 ha (some leased) to produce foundation seeds of Maruti.
